I’ve poked fun at these cars and the questionable mods people do them a lot, but now the yobbos have moved back onto Corsas, they’re really growing on me and I sort of want one. It doesn’t cost a lot to get one at all, and as the people who hooned about in them as teenagers grow older and get proper jobs, there’s a very good chance that they’ll want them again and prices will shoot up, so I don’t think it’d be a terrible investment (assuming nothing breaks, but it’s a Citroen, so everything will go wrong on it)

Citroëns/Peugeots from that era are really quite decent cars. Nice examples of the sporty versions will appreciate, for the reason you mentioned plus because these cars are very fun to drive. Had I had a big dry shed I’d fill it with these, and sell them 10-15 years from now. Just check how much a nice Peugeot 205 GTi is worth nowadays, and compare that with a decade+ ago.

I’d say this was the last properly good generation of PSA cars, though I remember my parents having citroens of similar vintage they were constantly having trouble with - but I’ve also heard that these and the 106 are incredibly good fun to drive since they weigh so little.

They’re well worth the money people ask at the moment, and I don’t think it’ll be long before prices start to skyrocket - it’s already happened to the quick 106s, and people have started charging more for decent unmolested VTSes too, so it’s already sort of starting to appreciate.

I agree. My 406 coupe has been perfect. Bought it in October 2012 with 167k on it, it has 284k now, and nothing out of the ordinary broke. Yes I changed tires and brakes (once). Mid and rear sections of the exhaust. Radiator and battery (both preventively). Belts (scheduled maintenance). Headlight bulbs (twice). But other than that? Well, the outside temperature thermometer lost track of reality this autumn.

Ignoring how ugly they are, I wouldn’t own a 407. I just don’t trust them. But these x06 Peugeots (excluding the 206) are really great.

I own a 205 GTi. I just looked up how much it’s worth this afternoon. I was pleased.

That doesn’t sound too bad. My parents are pretty good at buying poorly looked after lemons then not maintaining them properly, so the chances are they generally aren’t as bad as I think they are.

Anything before the (x)07 (except 206) and C(X) series should be pretty good cars, especially the sporty versions.

Yeah, this is pretty much how I see it too, though I’ve some good things about quick 206s. I’d take the earlier stuff any day though.

They are still making them in Argentina and Iran so they must be something good about them.
